Household Economic Empowerment Initiative growing
More families are joining savings groups and livelihood activities designed to improve household income and build long-term resilience.
SFUCI's Household Economic Empowerment Initiative continues to expand across Mbarara and Kakumiro districts, with new savings groups forming and existing ones deepening their reach. Families that once struggled to meet basic needs are now pooling resources, accessing affordable credit, and investing in small enterprises that pay school fees, buy medicine, and put food on the table.
Through the Community Revolving Funds model, members receive training in financial literacy, governance, and small business management — skills that turn short-term support into long-term resilience. Group leaders are democratically elected, books are kept transparently, and loans are repaid into a fund that keeps growing alongside the community.
Beyond the numbers, the change is cultural. Parents speak with new confidence about planning for their children's future. Women, who make up the majority of group members, are leading enterprises and shaping household decisions. This is what sustainable, community-led development looks like in practice.
